music from the past

quite a few years ago now (scary) i went on a trip to iceland with some friends and while there i had pretty much one playlist i'd listen too, which makes everything in there super nostalgic to me. i just wanted to go through some of those memories here and share some pretty rad tunes from back then.

the first track on that playlist is a remix of "fleeting frozen heart" by xxtarlit, from forest runaways. this seems to be a super popular remix of the original track and i can see why its a bit more chill with slightly more classic dnb style drums. although i love the original track, and probably would listen to it over the forest runaways mix, this track will always have a place in my heart for being a super strong memory of the trip as a whole, kinda set the vibe for it tbh.

now i guess ill step into controversial territory here but there are a few sewerslvt tracks on here that are quite sentimental to me i hate to say. although now i'm very much on the side of disliking sewerslvt, back then i was a much bigger fan so unfortunately a lot of her music is quite enjoyable to me just for nostalgia. in particular i want to mention her remix of loona's "hi high" which til this day i think is absolutely a banger and her best work. i think i must've listened to this track like 100 times back around the trip.

next track i want to talk about is by foxxy dekay, "don't stop". what an absolute classic. from the first time i heard this track it just filled me with joy, the vibes are so immaculate here. it's pretty impossible not to here this and not feel in a better mood afterwards. i haven't really explored foxxy dekay's discography much outside of this, but if there is more like this i have really got to.

another track with a more upbeat and cheery energy is "up 2 me" by fyoum. fyoum's tracks have always grabbed be as they are so interesting and just different than anything else i've heard. i love the vocals in this track so fucking much there is just something about them thats so unique and like nothing i've heard before or after. i also love the instrumental it's super fun and just ugh. this track is an all time classic in my books and just like nothing else. i've really got to rant on here about more of fyoum's stuff soon as it's all amazing and super unique.

for my last little section i want to talk about 2 tracks actually, both by xxtarlit, who if you couldn't tell is a big part of my old listening interests. the first track is a super interesting and trippy house track called "100percent". i can't quite explain why i love this track so much, i think the psychedelic vocals throughout the whole song are very interesting, and the bass and that beeping sound, for lack of a better term, are just so catchy. xxtarlit's track always manage to have a super strong vibe and this one is no different. 10/10.

the second track is "running on empty". this is pretty much a complete switch in mood to "100percent" and is a very ominous and atmospheric dnb track. this one stands out to me as i remember listening to it on the long coach rides while i was there and falling asleep, i'm not sure why but even though its a pretty creepy track, with the looming synth note and reverberated vocals, it still manages to be really relaxing and something to listen to with your heart, as it's almost 8 minutes of pretty much the same thing over and over lol. but i think that the runtime is a strength in this case it really helps the atmosphere.

there are still many tracks that are very sentimental to me from this time, so at some point i might write a little about those too. goodnight.

Kanon

Spoilers below.

I want to note my thoughts on Kanon as I read through each ending as I think a little reflection is good every once and awhile. Keep in mind though, I am new to the median, so I maybe have differing views than somebody with experience.

The first route I took was Nayukis. In the end I did feel pretty satisfied with this ending in terms of how Nayuki plays out as a character and seeing into the memories Yuichi has of her and how they affect his view of her in the end. Although I think it felt a little rushed near the end, a lot of the early game is spent doing menial tasks and slowly learning the characters we are surrounded by. But in the last 10 or so days, I think the pace was a little too fast. Especially Akiko's hospitalisation. I would have really liked to have had some more scenes of Nayuki learning about the accident, and the menial around the house tasks and school that Yuichi experiences afterwards. I think this would have shown how lonely the world had become without Akiko or Nayuki around.

Shiori. overall, i really enjoyed this route too. i don't really know how to articulate my thoughts on it as i don't really have any complaints. i think it all played out a little smoother than nayuki's route, but also had less of a kinda big impact scene or whatever. i thought it was really sweet and especially so towards the end. i think i would've liked to see koari be played out a little more? maybe a little in the epilogue, but i wouldn't be sure how to go about that... i don't think i enjoyed this or nayuki's route more, i'd rate them pretty equally, as both endings left me feeling happy for the characters and very satisfied.
